Using Tasmania’s beautiful timbers for
furniture that lasts lifetimes
My love of wood grew from watching my father using what are now old traditional carpentry skills in his workshop in the Austrian village where we lived.
It was as if carpentry was in my blood and at my urging my father took me on as an apprentice cabinetmaker and imparted to me the skills he had learned through a lifetime of creating with timber.
When I graduated as a young man I worked in more modern environments using contemporary materials, but my first choice was, and still is, to use old, well-seasoned timber.
That factory work did, however, teach me about the importance of cabinet furniture, the hinges, locks, handles and other devices now found in modern kitchens. I still use the best European products because they enhance my work and are durable.
The owners of this kitchen where unhappy with the original kitchen that came with the house. It was a beige Laminex kitchen with a dark brown top.
They were happy with the interior which was in good condition. All we did was to change the drawer glides (to modern soft closing ones), replaced fronts and tops and put a few pull out shelves into one of the cupboards. The owners are very happy with the results.
